Yesterday I got an email from a friend of a friend asking me to come and look at a faulty shower isolator switch, so I duely popped in on my way home.

This is what I saw when I removed the switch from the wall:



Obviously before I took it off the wall I went to look at their shiney new CU (which had been installed as part of building works in the summer):

So what do you observe??

Something else is amiss then, he has included the cooker as a 32A!! the shower is included at 40A the mega hob 40A .....So somewhere there is a 32A gone astray... lol!!!

I should have taken another photo after I'd worked my way along the breakers and identified the shower, cooker and hob and both the lighting circuits.

I'm going back next month to do another job which means working out what all the 32A breakers do before I start!!

What's more worrying is why all those rcbos and not split load also Wylex board and no Wylex rcbos

Arent the higher rated breaker supposed to be nearer to the switch also, i guess this is good practice rather than reg.

Are the rings really wired in singles?
I hate doing the test sheets but even I could manage a few more basics than that!
Good work on the switch too, must have taken some force.
Also like the figure 8 tests, is that standard on Napit paperwork?

What a dogs dinner, anyway, when you have compared results of those RCBO's let me know, just done a web search on them and at £11.99, not a bad price!!

Hum... figure of 8 tests - what does that actually mean on a radial?

He couldn't have done that on the shower circuit I looked at, else he would have noticed that the CPC's for feed and load were connected in the back of the surface box and not connected to the switch in any way.

Maximum disconnection time (S) should be 5 sec for a 40 amps breaker and not 0.4 sec, what a joke!

The Napit forms have the the figure of 8 tick box on their forms along with tick boxes for any conceivable excuse they can find for inclusion of them.
Just look at the schedule of inspections for tick box mania

They are possibly the poorest constructed of forms claiming to be constructed on the model Iet forms

In essence they are a joke and Napit have been told over and over about this foolishness,but with no change likely

I personally never use them,I prefer my doctored Niceic ones

Have used Europa RCBOs before and never had one test bad or any call backs.
