The TV companies spend too much money on sport (football) and don't have enough money left to commission any decent programmes these days.

The other side of it is that we don't seem to have the writers to come up with ideas and scripts that will become the classic comedy of the future or will Dad's Army and the like still prevail

Until I married Mrs Rockingit and moved to Zummerzet about five years ago I didn't have a TV and didn't miss out on anything at all. I would quite happily rip the damn thing(s) off the wall and install surround sound bookcases with HD novels and 16:9 hardbacks instead.

I was more than happy getting Channels 1-4 up until a few years back (couldn't get Freeview where I live or even Channel 5), then the wife moved in and forced me to get Sky, I still object to paying for basically a load of looped garbage interspersed heavily with adverts, but hey, owt for a quiet life. Sigh.
