I'm not sure if our insurance is expensive or not, I don't know what the company cars are costing because they're all on one policy. My wife has a 2 year old Renault Scenic (yeah I know, please don't laugh) and fully comprehensive any driver it costs the equivalent of around 40 pounds (350ZAR) per month. My motorcycle is around 15 pounds per month with just me as the insured.

We pay a small levy on fuel that goes to a road accident fund, injured people can claim medical expenses, suffering and lost income from this fund (which is presently bankrupt) so insurance is completely optional.
