Hello all,

A newbie to the forum. I spent 4 years as an apprentice, completing the City and Guilds 236 parts i and ii back in the early 1990's. I have worked in the telecoms industry since early 2000's. I have joined the forum looking at getting back up to speed with requlation changes. I am aware of Part P, the colour changes and the 18th Edition coming into force but feel as though I need to be more 'current' Located inNorth West Leicester, UK.

buy a copy of the 18th. familiarise yourself with it's contents. consider getting the qualification... 2382. FYI. Megger Testers are now callec insulation resistance testers and there's no winder on the side.some other terminolgy has changed. e.g. ring main now refers to a distribution ring, whereas a final circuit is a ring final. leccy is still the same though. it bites. and welcome to the mad house.

Thank you. I still have my insulation resistance tester, it was posh in them days, had batteries! but I doubt it meets current regulations. I qualified just as the 16th came in but missed the 17th Edition.

it will comply if you get it calibrated. ( only necessary for certificates. for fault finding it will be fine as is as long as it shoves 500V up-em

Thanks, I still have my big yellow case, containing insulation resistance, loop and RCD tester's. I think I can sell them as antiques.

Robin? you really need a MFT with no-trip loop test, RCD auto and RCD ramp. use the old ones for fault finding. not too big a loss if you drop 'em. i still got a Megger BM7 (google it) and a wind up for fault finding. the wind up finds faults that these piffling battery digital toys can't see.

yellow bricks. stood test of time. i still got an analogue robin IR tester and a digital (ach. spit) RCD tester. both give similar readings to calibrated megger 1553.

Robin testers were really awful. Do you remember D-lock? What a load of rubbish. Tripped the RED every time
