Franchise? your opinions

Personally i have always been dubious about franchises. And looking at their set up costs of £16k plus vat, i would be asking what does it get me and for how long. Spend half of that and set yourself up, and use the other half to keep your head above water whilst you get established. They will take your money, no problem, but like Mr Electric they will over charge and you will get sod all work. I also would imagine they will get a bad reputation as all they want is your cash, and they have no interest in your skills etc. Todays binman, tomorrows sparky. That in no way implies that you are unskilled or otherwise, it just points out that they only give a ---- about money.

Cheers.....Howard

if you want to start a company up i have the MR Electric price guide you can work from...!! :)

dont ask me how i got it...!!!

Don't touch, you can do what they do all on your own with a bit of confidence and some good marketing, know a guy who had this franchise, he made good money but they take there cut and come down hard on you if you do work seen to be outside the franchise, so get caught doing a Saturday job and not informing them, and giving them there slice of the money and you lose your franchise.

Cheers Fellas, was just after the general thoughts on it.. as I myself have some serious doubts about franchises.

I posted my thoughts on Mr Electric with some very useful insight in this post, see this link below:

I do remember reading your thoughts and thought for someone who is not a franchisee or has a connection to Mr Electric they were very good. I was a franchisee with Mr Electric and recently spoke to an old friend who is still with them. He stated that in 2012 there were 6 franchisees now there are 8 but about 25 have signed up and paid their money only to leave soon after. Of those 7 franchisees left 2 have only just started so have not had time to pack up. I don't think I need to say anymore about my old fanchise far better of away from them. I belive franchising can work but not with Mr Electric. Frightening thing is they are still selling franchisees taking peoples money.
