Hello All, Please go easy on me as I am relatively new to the profession. I have my annual surveillance visit and plan to offer up a Distribution board (being done tomorrow) and a Garage rewire (left part done as assessor requested so I can do dead tests), They are both at the same property.
The house, a 60’s bungalow has old wire fuses, no RCD but has a pool and Jacuzzi bath! . . . . it may prove to be interesting!

I just wanted to say what I plan to do so I can get some opinions on the best way to do things . . . . Here goes!

First change the main CU for a 17[SUP]th[/SUP] dual RCD board with one non RCD’d way in which I will put a 40A MCB from which I will run 6mm 3 core SWA using spare core as CPC (25m clipped direct VD 5.84 with a load of 32A)
Metal Wylex garage CU with one 32A ring, 6A lighting, 16A radial to pool. (ring in garage as the assessor likes me testing his ring!)

My experience with sub boards on SWA is limited but I plan to gland and bond the SWA each end. Q1: When I test for my Zdb do I do it with the glands linked or just using the 6m earth in the SWA? Q2: If there happens to be a metal water pipe in the garage am I right that I have to run a 10mm earth from the main DB to DB2 (it’s tns) and bond the water?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Ian

When I can be arsed to I will dig out paperwork for this, on your assessment ask him the correct procedure for the earthing arrangement for an out building and if he says you can export/extend the equipotential zone I've got a 12 inch penis, I'm not saying this is the best way to do it but it is the CORRECT way and if you are being assessed then its the way i would do it

Oh and we all have the right to have different opinions that's life.

Again dillb spouting off about **** you don't know, you get permission off the supplier and I will apologise. You go rough it in.

the only time the DNO may object to extending a pme supply is when its to a building that is metal in construction or has structural steel.
your other assumptions will fold faster than a pack of cards in a tornado.
i await your best insult.
;-)

Have you ever requested permission before, what is the correct way to feed an out building is the question not how you would do it! So answer that

Have a read of this attachment. But I think the O.P said it was TNS anyway. Even so its still a good read.

Oh mate . . . . Im more confused than when i first posted now.
Everyone does things differently the best thing to do is ask your assessor. I get bored of arguing on here to be honest when I first joined it was all just a bit of banter but now you get so called super sparks on here who think they are the oracle of electrical, don't like other people opinions if they are different from there's or involves them doing more work. Let us know what your assessor says.

I rang two mates today, both in their late 50's, both had different opinions, so i guess i will just use common sense.
I will bond the armour at the main CU end and use the spare 6mm as my earth for the garage CU, at worst i will get an observation against me. I have had this chap once before and he is always keen to teach.

Thanks for the help and entertainment gents!

Sixth rule: no shirts, no shoes, no TT to a garage. Seventh rule: fights will go on as long as they have to. And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first post at Electricinasforum Club, you have to fight.
