That is a good point @Murdoch . Most prob people quitting smoking as caused the obesity level to go up but I think that the price of 'fast foods' has also got to do something with it.... It's more expensive to buy healthy food than to buy junk foods. Also most junk foods do taste nice...

30 years ago the requirement for desk & office based personell was a lot less. More manual labour undertaken.

Now I reckon 50% of the population sit down to work, the 10% unemployed sit down all day

not always. some people have metabolism problems whereby even if they eat like hamsters, they pile on weight. on the opposite, some guys can eat like pigs and remain skinny.

The nanny state telling you what you can and can't eat.
Everyone knows what is good and bad for your health, but we choose what to eat and drink.
Everything is geared toward being less weight, lower blood pressure etc. There are people who are naturally underweight and low bp. They don't get the 'advice' from the media in the same manner on how to gain weight.
An example would be a teenage girl, already skinny but healthy being bombarded with diet/low sugar/low fat messages and becoming dangerously underweight because she is forced to think that way.
Sugar tax on chocolate bars? no thanks. They are lifesavers for certain diabetics.

I'm not a vegan, but the animals I eat were.

I'll get a few 'disagree' comments, but smoking is a different matter. Non smokers don't have a choice when a smoker breathes on them.
Always reminded of a notice in my old local at home.

"You are a smoker. The by-product of your smoking is second hand smoke being inhaled by other people.
I am a drinker. The by product of me drinking is urine. How would you like it if I p**ssed on you?"
