Hi all, Any advice on the following please?

I am a maintenance electrician. I have some experience working in domestics. I do fully understand domestic and commercial single and three phase wiring, and testing as this is my job.

My Qualifications:

  • 18th edition
  • 2391-52 Inspection and testing
  • Registered Engtech with IET
  • I need to do NVQ and AM2 to get gold card
  • I do not have Part P and I am not part of a competent person scheme as I do not have my NVQ completed yet

My plan is to renovate a property and put in all new circuits myself in accordance with 18th edition. I will design and test everything myself first. I am very confident with 240v domestic circuit designing and testing. Most of my job is testing.

I would then like to get a domestic electrician in to do the EICR.

Big question: Would this work? Would a self-employed domestic electrician be happy to sign off my work if it is up to scratch? I will make sure the domestic electrician is paid well, I won’t scrape on this.

Reason I want to do this is because I want new modern circuits in the house and not pay over £10,000 for someone to do a job that I am capable of doing mostly myself e.g. chasing in cables and second fixing.

I don’t see why not. If you find another electrician before you start the work and speak with them about your process of working and they’re confident in you and they do a few visits throughout the rewire to see you’ve used grommets, right cable zones etc etc then they might be happy to offer you an EIC (electrical installation certificate). Some might, some might not want to
