Fully Qualified Electrician Course

Evening,

I am looking to become a fully qualified electrician however I am unsure which is the best route to go down.

I work in the electrical industry currently working with data a fibre. I have rewired my house (with a little help)

Could anyone suggest the best way to go about achieving this without completing an apprenticeship. I am 28 and do not have the time to complete an apprenticeship

you need to do your level 3 technical certs, followed by an nvq3, am2, then a testing course... and following that register with a cps scheme provider if that's the route you choose....

its not a quick process and I would say if time is a constraint look for a different career

I didn't have time for an Apprenticeship, but I did one 6 years it took me, sorry for the tone of my reply Mate but "don't have the time to do an Apprenticeship" is Red rag to a bull to some of us, not meant for you Suffolkspark.

I’m fully aware that I would need to put a lot of work and willing to do so. It was more to do with Work commitments

Your post makes no sense. If you don't have the time, then you can't become what you want to, it doesn't work like that. What makes you think you can just achieve something so easily? Edit just seen your last post.

I am just finishing my nvq3 got my am2 in May. I went to night college for a couple of years. But, to do my 3rd year (portfolio) I have used quickstep. You gather all evidence and submit it online. To be qualified you need your nvq 3. No fast route really. Just have to bite the bullet. It is worth it. You could potentially do it in a couple years?

I work with electricians at work and have picked up a lot in the last ten years of working for the same company. They have not been willing to invest in our progress until I have got to the point of leaving and now are willing to put me on an electrical course. I just would like to know if there is an intensive course or would an apprentice ship be the best route.

You will need to complete the C & G 2357 course which will realistically take you about two years and cost about £10k.

This covers all your theory and your NVQ practical and the pointless AM2 exam.

Please be aware that their is NO OTHER WAY to become a ‘fully qualified electrician’.

Following on from an NVQ which is completely site based and covers everything to then have to do the AM2 seems pointless to me.

As above. Unfortunately, becoming an electrician is not a purely academic process. It is a craft, so you need to have the knowledge, but also be immersed in and practise the multi-various skills that you need.

IMO there's no short cuts and no substitute for working 'on the tools'.

I'm an older apprentice but not with domestic but with transmission. The DNO/NG do decent apprenticeship schemes three years but we are not electians.

It's possible had a friend who did at 28 but it still took him 5years, working night shifts in a b&q to make ends meet to begin with.

Certainly agree that there is no quick route to becoming an electrician.You will only become a fully qualified electrician with a fully recognised degree both level 2 and 3 and a lot of experience as i will guarantee you will not pass the AM2 examination without it. The level 3 NVQ will require evidence of your work in all sectors and will need to be backed up with photographic evidence and an assessor visiting you a few times working onsite putting the theory into practice and proving the evidence you have provided is your work.
All this is achievable without an apprenticeship but it will cost thousands and you will need a qualified electrician to work alongside to gain the experience whilst studying and expect it to take at least 4 years.
