Just thought id share my find whilst testing a flat.

He asked if i wouldnt mind having a look while i was there doing an eicr.

The inside of the plugtop was a nice shade of brown, mixed with melted plastic. The wall socket was all ok, no signs of damage.

He has been advised to stop using it, and put back the smoke dectors he took down because of it.

Anyone else had a fun find today?

Even the oven would be what is classed as ''Brown'' goods, as all domestic electrical appliances and equipment supplied to and sold in the UK, must be provided with a factory fitted 13A plug top, there are few exceptions to this EU rule!! Likewise for any other European country, appliances being directly sold in any EU country, must be fitted with a plug top corresponding to that countries National standard system....

I didnt ask but my guess is a himself or a family member brought it over and grabbed what ever they could to make it fit in 13a socket.

The adaptor didnt even have an earth pin

saw a good one last week, mates sister in laws landlord had put a new socket in bedroom for her, he had used a 2g dry lining box surface mounted on to wall and then cut a slot in the skirting board for the t&e and just pushed it in and left it like that

How mental is that! Sometimes it's not the install that causes fires its the ingenuity of the appliance DIY fixers out there.

Some people just dont understand the dangers. I was doubting wether to code it on my eicr because its not part of the 'fixed wiring' that i was testing. I gave it a c2 in the end as it is potencially dangerous and the landlord should know what the tennants are doing with her flat.
