hi, try disconnecting out going side of rcd and try 1/2 current test, if not tripping rcd is ok and likely not to be faulty.

Also I have just highlighted that 16th edition split boards you may find that the face plates are single pole I spent forever tring to get a neutral to earth fault fixed and then got called back after I thought I fixed it only to find they fitted the electric fire via a switched SP FCU and muggins thought it was out of circuit being switched off but that was a big school day for me and a light bulb moment

Yes, that was the result I was getting, so I changed the RCD. The customer was getting the trip every morning when turning the kitchen lights on; it wouldn't happen any other time, so I rang them yesterday morning to check whether it had tripped - it hadn't, but I'm still gonna be nervous of seeing their number calling my mobile...
