Thinking ahead, once i finish my NVQ i want to take some additional training. Firstly I'm thinking I'd like to delve a little deeper into lighting designs and lighting systems.

I don't really want to follow a career into lighting but it's very applicable where I work.

I'd like to gain more knowledge in KNX, DALI, dynalite, relux etc....

Could anyone recommend specific courses? I'm based in the Midlands. I wouldn't fancy travelling half way across the country.

Try whichever company you buy the majority of your lighting equipment, they sometimes provide bespoke training, won't be C and Gs and probably last about a day, but you never know.

If you don't want to follow a career in lighting then why would you want to delve deeper into lighting designs and systems?

There's all sorts of things out there and there's not always a set path or course to get there. A good start is just with what do you enjoy or find interesting.

Personally I'd like to learn more about BMS. I think some things you can only pick up by working on the right projects/with the right company. If you don't want a career in lighting then perhaps it's time for a change.

There's a smart home group on facebook which has started offering free courses - I think the most recent one is on audio. I don't want to post a link or whatnot just in case it's against the rules but I'm sure you could find it with a quick search

I guess I don't want to put all my eggs into one basket. I enjoy designing and installing lights and I want to learn more about this, but at this point in my career I still want to learn other sections of the electrical trade too.

I am waiting for my AM2s assessment date. Once that is complete I then want to enrol onto some more training and lighting appeals to me more right now
