Hi people,

I have been asked to do a periodic inspection and test on a small oil refinery. I had a quick look at the electrics when I did the PAT testing and absolutely every circuit is unlabelled. I wanted to know what the best fuse finder is and if one can be used whilst everything is live as you can imagine there are some bits I cannot just switch off. If you could let me know the make and model and best/cheapest place to buy it from.

Thanks Alec

Thanks for reply but will need something that has leads with croc clips to put on isolators etc. just been looking at a socket and see FFCB200UK - FUSE FINDER TEST KIT has anyone used this?

I've just bought a martindale fd 600 from ebay for similar reasons that you want one. I've just had a play about with it at home , it does find the fuses and all other accessories on the circuit it is connected to. It is used live taking its power from the circuit under test, and has an adapter for circuits other than sockets too.
I can see many uses for this, ie tracing circuits and breaks in cables.

Look on ebay you may just get a bargain.

It has the test leads with the croc clips . gs 38 leads

all your equipment will have to be "insintricaly safe" and approved for use in explosive places personaly if you dont have compex IMO you CANT be competant to do a PIR as the Compex regulations apply and are way different from basic PIR
