Newbie Question:

What’s the general consensus with cutting the main fuse seal for a consumer unit change? I’m aware of the requirement to contact the DNO, but just wondering what the done thing is in practical terms?

The logistics of getting the DNO to cut the fuse can be impractical, especially in the current climate.

If you are getting permission, how are you going about it?

Thanks

Realistically I don't think the DNO cares about fuse-pulling as such, so long as it is not causing damage or leading to theft of supply.

If anything smart meters would let them know if there is a sudden daily drop in the demand following an interruption!

I was told, direct from the DNO that it was fine for me to cut the seals as long as they were sealed again before I left. Smart meters? Cut loads and no call backs or queries.
Like many have said, if there is no need for the DNO to be present and it's left as you found it, no problem.
