Galv conduit

Not something we normally get involved in installing, but, we have a long straight run of galv conduit to install (approx) 60 mtrs. Would this require any sort of expansion joint?

Make sure you add a through box in every 2 lengths

Expansion joints, no.... but you'll need plenty of inspection couplings/boxes though.

My strategy would be stand off saddles every 1200 and a thru every 4800

It was just the expansion thing I was wondering about, there are T boxes and lights all along the route.
It only dawned on me as the installation we are replacing has at approx every 20 mtrs what I can only describe as a humpback bridge and I was wondering if it was serving the same purpose

Expansion joints are only generally required when the metal containment crosses a buildings expansion joint where the two building sections are expected to expand and contract....

Dont bother with inspection couplers or bends etc just get through boxes, you will thank me later when you try to get cables through

I really like working with galv.

It is much more satisfying to manufacture your own bends, sets etc.

Most of our work is in plantrooms so we use galv trunking, conduit or tray a lot

You asked a question but forget to tell us the environment and temp' gradients changes etc ..... if its in the sun you may be surprised how hot the metal can get and not just expansion issues but ambient temp of cables rockets up... generally when you don't have these concerns take all the above advice as no need for expansion allowances

As a side note, its inside surely 2" trunking would be a lot more flexable solution

On most, if not all well specified projects, those inspection elbows/bends, Tees and in-line pull couplings on metal conduit containment systems are expressly forbidden. Apart from being a real pain to wire through, they can and will, shred the insulation from cables like a knife going through butter!! lol!!
