Hi all,

recently moved into new house and was looking in garage which currently has 1 strip light with the wire from the house entering the garage into the light then another wire comes out the light and down to a switch.

Is this normal??

and is it possible to put a junction box into the wire from the house to power a socket?

Ok great guys thanks for all your help. Ill just run the 2.5 from the socket itself and fit a 2G DP RCD Socket in garage.

Looks so simple and best of all safe. Great site , great advice.

Thanks again.

by doing it that way, you don't introduce more joints, every joint is a potential hazard. as my dear old dad use to say " K.I.S.S." ( KEEP IT SIMPLE, SOFTLAD ) LOL

don't forget we using foreign colours now. brown 4 red and blue 4 black. remember to use earth sleeving. RCD socket form electric center, or other wholesaler. b&q too expensive in my view

hello.you can spur off the ring main in 2.5 take it to a 1 way distribution board then as long as you fit no bigger than a 20 amp fuse yoy can install more than one socket.make it an rcd board and you,ve solved that problem to

suggest you get a qualified sparks in as you really need to update that old board, but if you are going to fit a socket in the garage, it must be RCD protected. as long as your new cable is not buried in plaster, less than 50mm below surface. you can fit an RCD socket. job done.

Why??

What he should get done is a PIR and see if the existing installation is safe.
