garage light and socket

I think this would be possible and havent done it yet, will be doing next weekend, i have to do a few repairs where an electrician has left a bungalow in abit of mess, main job is too sort the garage, existing supply is on a 32A breaker and from first glance didnt seem to be a ring, so was thinking to make the best out of this bad situation for them to convert it into a 16A radial for 1 light and 1 socket which is all they want, light will be taken from a suitable un switched fuse spur fused down to 5a would this be ok?

thanks,

The garage part seems fine, but a little confused with the supply part to it. Your saying that the supply to the garage is off a 32 amp MCB protection device, but it don't seem to be a ring?

So what is it a radial, or a spur of a ring ? Why are you now wanting to change the protection device to a 16amp? I'm assuming that your worried about cable size. Once you start to change the characeteristics of the protection devices your going from a MEIWC to an EIC.

Not sure also why you are wanting to fit an unswitched FCU for the light in the garage. Is it an existing one? If it isn't then fit a switched one for turning the light on and off.

All wiring is existing, I have lloked at the board and it says garage supply below the breaker, And looking where the cable comes through into the garage there is only 1 2.5mm cable, therfore wanting to reduce this down, yes the light is existing and is currently fused down as i said already, but i am planning on sorting it all out properly so just want to get it right, if it is ok, then i will leave as it is, sorry for the confusion.

Well Ben first off make sure that indeed the breaker marked garage supply is the breaker that does it ..............if it is and there is just a single 2.5mm in a 32amp breaker then yes your going to have to downgrade it and do a full EIC for that.

You say you are sorting a few things out mate, are you doing a PIR for the installation?

i will have a more closer look when i come to do the job yes, and also its an outside light, jst swap like for like and they want the bathroom fan loking at the say it runs on for too long after the light is switched off. do these have an adjustable timer on some models?

the timer has a small pot on the pcb to adjust the run on time.
