Hi there !
so I need some sockets in my garage and it’s only about a metre away from the house (kitchen sockets on internal side) I’m going to spur off my kitchen socket into a fuse spur and then run some 2.5mm into conduit and out to the garage (weatherproof box , saddles used ) also going to have to make a bridge between the house and garage with a plank of wood mounted. Anyway , will 3 sockets and a light be okay coming off the spur ? I will also have a 3amp spur in the garage for the lights.

If it’s a fused spur, then everything in the garage will be limited by the 13A fuse in the fused outlet.

What is going on the garage? Power tools etc can have a start up current higher than what they are rated at, so is 13A enough?
Also how is the kitchen wired? 32A ring on its own? With the rest of the downstairs? Have to think of extra load on the existing circuit.
New sockets also require rcd protection.

It would just be for radio , chargers etc. No tools only maybe a hedge trimmer. Kitchen is wired separate so the extra shouldn’t be a problem …

Local rcbos in the garage

Branching off a final socket circuit is poor enough design assuming you need a bit of power

You might get away with using a few chargers and light stuff

There's not much capacity available in total when you branch off with a spur

Yes, if the load is minimal, there’s nothing wrong with coming off a 13A fuse

As above, all sounds fine so long as the existing sockets have RCD protection. And you have recently tested that at least with the 'test' button!

But my own preference is to avoid 3 cables in a socket, so I would put the FCU next to one of you existing sockets and extend the ring via that. So take one of the socket's cable to the FCU, and then a short link in 2.5mm from the FCU back to the socket, so both have only 2 conductors per terminal on each.

It sounds like the garage is not used for much, but if you have anything planned when a loss of lights is a risk then look at using some of the LED baton lights that have built-in battery backup. Then you would need 3 wires to the light (permanent live, switch live, neutral) as well as the CPC (earth). This sort of idea:

Didn’t think of extending the ring tbh I do agree with it ,a lot better than just putting another cable in and having 3 ?
