Discuss gas and water bonding in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

1. explain to the customer, if they will get it then upgrade bonding
2. if they dont get it dont tick the boxes for gas/water on the cert, write your concerns in the departures box, wear a cowboy hat if you wish, remember to check it in the future.

Seriously the worst advice ive seen on here in a while, you have just suggested if the customer wont pay extra then he should forget the bonding and write it off in departures..... so the customer now has evidence of his gross negligence as well as still having an installation that could harbour dangerous potentials between different services :cowboy:

do you have a better option? i did not suggested charging them extra, but will be nice if they chip in for some cable
but if they DONT want it, and this things happen, like lifting floors and water bond on the other side of the house... you wont go there and do it against them , do you? at least have a certificate with no bonding mentioned to cover you back

We don't know the difficulty in doing the bonding but with all due respect here if you attempt to add it as an extra and they decline its going to look bad on him if he then says he has to do it to ensure safety and to issue them a cert' .... the best way and only way for a professional Electrician here is to hold his hands up say he's made a mistake and do it off his own back - live's a learning curve, you would certainly get more respect and recommendations from a customer who see's the honesty. You can't issue a cert' for your work without ensuring the bonding if required is done, leaving it out of the cert means the Cert' cannot be submitted as its part of the safety of the property and in testing his work and submitting the cert' he is expressing he has done all that is necessary to ensure his work complies - it will not comply if the Gas and Water are not bonded when they should be.

Explain to me why you think it would be necessary to bond metal incoming gas and water services and what are the potential risks in not doing so and you'll will understand my response to your post - you can't do any electrical work on any premises without ensuring the earthing system, bonding etc is safe.

I do believe that this is quite a serious issue here and to suggest that it should be left without it if it should need it is a serious breach of BS7671. Quite frankly you should put the hat and spurs on for suggesting such nonsense.
What type of electrician are you? Professional or chancer- you decide.

Sounds harsh, but have to agree with the others. You should have checked main bonding before even committing to the work. Up to you now to get it sorted.

If it gets random picked just say there friends of mine and there on holiday, then offer another posh biscuit quick. Fit bonding and tick the boxes walk away feeling like the jobs complete.

First thing you ask for after job description and peeking at the consumer unit, where are the gas and water. Get into the habit, or you'll get problems like this. You cannot certify as it does NOT comply.
