Just done some small work in a newly fitted kitchen,
There is no main earth bonding to gas and water. All plastered and decorated walls in an old stone building with no clear route from gas and water main inlets to consumer unit on other side of building. However, as part of the work, I disconnected a cooker circuit no longer required.

Is it possible to use the line and neutral of this 6mm t/e cable as an earth bond for the gas and water if correctly connected, marked and labelled at each end etc. ??

514.4.2 Protective conductor rules...

and by special location = part p notifiable area (not as special as a bath or shower)

i would give it a code 2 as some Muppet might think its a redundant cable and chop it out!!

Yep, that rules it out for sure - thx
Thought you mean't notifiable but its one of my pet hates that kitchens get referred to as special :-)

are we exporting the PME via SWA?? if so the SWA should be glanded tagged and utilised as the earth.

should achieve a greater Cross sectional area from the armour than the core.

That was why I was asking, seeing lots of threads on here asking about it and needing to bond a extraneous part.

end of day mate, this is an internet forum with many many many different heads and takes on the regulations...!

if you were to ever end up in court defending your actions its YOUR interpenetration of the book that's going to either sink or swim, not joe from screwfuxs forum....!

I understand that, just think that as long as common sense prevails everyone will be OK, just that sometimes people need to know exactly what they are doing and not just following some guidance from here.

You could just run 10mm black or brown single this would be ok according to 514.4.2 and as long as you comply with 514.3.2 this will be fine.

As for the original question ONE reason why not to use the existing cooker cable is 543.3.2 provided you didn't originally install the cable etc... the way I see it I only need one reason NOT to do something questionable..

This is just my view :)

If you are able to run a new 10mm cable why would you pick Blue / Brown. Not sure why this was suggested as O/S has already stated this is not an option. However in my opinion it one of the things checked when I price for the job therefore I certainly would not be worrying about how its is to be done after the job is completed.

As for using the existing cooker cable then in my opinion as there is not an existing bond to the gas / water then its classed as new work and therefore has to comply which would unfortuanlty mean 10mm
