Kev the gas

I booked my course 17 th edition course today for 31st October.

I completed a NICEIC, EDSBCA competance scheme defined scope LEVELS B & C back in May 2006.

The course above was to completed to enable me to join the Corgi electrical scheme, I was inspected only once in 5 years !!

I have signed up for the 17th edition C & G 2382 to enable me to join Elecsa Mcs scheme for Solar thermal hot water. I want to be able to sign off the control systems installed.

I have been told to purchase 1EE WIRING REGS17 th Edition, and IEE On Site guide. Can anyone suggest the best places to buy please?

Any advice gladly rcvd. I do not want to become an electrician to carry out rewires ect, but this route seems the only way I can achieve my end goal, any thoughts?

Kev.

Probably best you buy the new green edition of the 17th which carries amendment 1, 2011. I don't think the new edition of the OSG is available just yet, very soon though.

Amazon will probably be the cheapest place for both of them.

Amazon seems to be the cheapest but if your looking elsewhere make sure you get the green book, though to complicate things the exam will be on the red book so see if you can borrow a copy of someone (or try ebay, the for sale/wanted forum)

Requirements for Electrical Installations: BS 7671:2008 Incorporating Amendment No 1: 2011: IET Wiring Regulations: Amazon.co.uk: Institution Of Engineering And Technology: Books

On site guide isn't out till Oct 1st

Thanks for the replies guys.

Crikey the price!!! hope its a good read. I never bought the 16th Edition as CORGI never bothered as they sold their own condensed version.

Slightly off topic, but how were your customers when you said you used Corgi for the electrical job registration part of your business? if anyone asked that is.

Or was it a case of paying for the last 5 years and your customers not even caring or asking who you are registered with?

Just interested as, they seem quite cheap to join.

Do you live in hampshire? I have a red regs book you could use.

Thanks Mark, Ive just paid for a new green book.

Its amazing the trust people had in Corgi. The name change to Gas Safe register in my opinion was a disaster.

Corgi were, quite rightly starting to get involved with the electrical side of gas boiler heating controls so they brought out their competent persons scheme. In my 1st year after qualifying ! they had interest and carried out a thorough inspection of my installations.

Im sure you have seen some astonishing wiring skills by gas engineers/ plumbers.

Gas Safe Register came in and could not give a damn about control wiring, not within their duties is the reply I have had from them.

I lose a lot of work when surveying/ estimating when I insist upon earthing ect, when other GSR installers turn a blind eye and just leave a sticker regarding earth bonding on the gas meter.

But I sleep @ night.
