All exposed cable to earth rod connections (apart from exothermic or braze welded connections) should be protected against adverse environment conditions. Depending on the type of connection made, either adhesive lined heat shrink, or correctly applied amalgamating tape, should be provided to completely encapsulate the connection...
That's lovely, but the question was about bonding to a gas pipe
wrap it with denzo...My bad....lol!! I'd go with a good coating of amalgamating tape to protect the connection then...

Just slip a condom over it and wrap it with Gaffer Tape.
