Hi guys, just need a little bit of advice. I'm doing some garden lights and I wanted to fill the wiska boxes with the silicon gel. I have seen it on sale in 300ml and 1000ml.
How much would you reckon I need for 6 wiska boxes? The wiska boxes are the 85mm x 85mm ones.

I would say to need at least 1000ml probably more.

Do you literally fill the wiska box with the stuff? Sounds like a good idea. I've never come across that before.

I've used it on galv conduit Y boxes. Using the 300ml kit you get about 2 joints from 50ml of mixed gel so I'm guessing you'll need a fair bit for Wiska boxes. Why not just buy the kits that give you the box and the right amount of gel in one. Can't go wrong that way.

Never knew u could buy it like that. Is that quite common at most wholesalers??

Yea it just creates like a jelly type mould in the box. Doesnt have to be a wiska box could be any box

Very common, mine stocks magic gel, other under a different brand name. Wiska do their own stuff which is identical and comes in non resealable sashays. Brilliant stuff just make sure the boxes are completely clean, the apprentice did an existing box that the previous connections had rusted in when the stuff went off it still had continuity between L and E rust particles lol

I'm assuming that general mastik silicone does the same job but at a cheaper price?

The gel can be broken out if need be and dosent stick to the cables or terminals.

No idea what the electrical properties of mastic might be, so I wouldn't use it.

Ok, so went in the wholesalers today and the quote they gave for 6 small wiska boxes and the gel was just under £90? Does that seem expensive or is it just me, obviously I've never used or bought the magic gel before

I get a litre for £28 plus VAT at the moment.
