Hi,

I've only just noticed that my 1930s house looks like it has a second, disused intake.

Here it is highlighted in red, just to the right of the main fuse

And here it it close up

Anyone have an idea what it would be for? It must've been there since the house was built as it goes down into a solid floor

Thanks guys. I know the house was rewired in the 70s, so I guess this was probably a route for downstairs sockets or something originally, that that rerouted when they rewired it.

Seems strange they wouldn't have just used the existing conduit, but being such a long time ago I guess I'll never know why!

Unless they were replacing the original installation with a completely identical one (ie same number of sockets in exact same locations and same design of circuit) then reusing a bit of old conduit like that will likely have been pointless.
