Discuss Gentlemen it`s no good in the Electrical Testing & PAT Testing Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I am a bit rusty on the regs now for PAT I will need to brush up to get back up to speed, from memory IEC leads must be classed as a separate item to check for polarity cross over, the consequences of which I am sure I don't have to explain on here, I am not sure it is a legal requirement to hard test Earth connection by shoving amps down it I think it is permitted to do a continuity test whilst stressing the cable, as I say though I am a little rusty in that area now

How many IEC leads have you guys seen with crossed polarity?
Lets be honest, the 50p and the 1.65 people just a visual if not a 'home made lead' the green sticker is on auto pilot

2....Enough to kill 2 people under fault conditions

How many E Bond fails have I seen on new appliances..none

Lets not go down that route 'eh

Yeah you're right - I've come across IEC leads (even with moulded plugs) that L & N reversed.

Code of practice does tell us that IEC leads are tested as extension leads.

Quite a few imported PC systems have cables that are inherently high resistance cpc and failed earth bond test. I suppose some of this equipment is still out there. Its therefore prudent to apply the tests to these IEC cables, particularly as most office types have the habit of leaving their systems running 24/7 !

In the back of comps they are always nearly scrunched up and bent double and usually as you say on 24/7 I have had a lot fail EB test even though there is continuity if you subsequently test them with a meter, just goes to show you sometimes it needs a good few amps to break it down

TWENTY TESTS A HOUR =3 miutes a test and to log and write down the results now imagine doing this constant for ten hours you would reach 200 tests what a complete load of bull **** and there are companys out there requireing 300 to 400 tests this is criminal rouge traders you need to investigate now.
