I'm in need of a decent pair of cable cutters for 10mm and up, tails etc...etc... At the moment I'm using a Stanley Fatmax pair, cheap and cheerful I know but they do the job. The problem is, if it's a really chunky cable I have to use two hands and when the cutters finally snip, my knuckles crunch together so hard it's agony! What I need is a pair of cutters that are so good I can use with one hand no matter what size the cable I'm cutting is, or, a pair that I can use with two hands that has its handles quite far apart so that when they are closed, my knuckles aren't touching. Anyone have any ideas?

I use cutters like these, cut tails & small SWA like they are butter

My Stanleys cut them like butter too, it's just my knuckles get in the way! I think I may have abnormally large hands :D Thanks for the input but I suspect the snips you have displayed would pose the same problem :(

I dunno? I just have a problem with these kind of snips?! When I have hold of a handle with each hand, when I snip, the sharp jolt I get the second I cut through always smashes my knuckles together.

I see you problem now, what are you cutting that needs two hands?
I can cut tail ect with one hand with cutters like the ones in pic

Not sure on the exact cutters you have, but 25mm tails with my cutters are not a problem. Larger SWA (over 4core 10mm) i always use hacksaw as it takes 2-3 cuts with my cutters(If you know what I mean) All i can say is take some 25mm to your wholesales and try some like the ones in pic, i think you may be surprised at how easy they cut

Try doing "forearm exercises" to increase grip strength!! or instead of holding one handle in each hand squeeze your right hand with your left.

I'm a rock climber so I know for sure it's not my forearm strength that's the problem!! :) When I'm cutting larger cables, one hand alone isn't big enough to grip both handles, that's why I use two.

I've had this problem with many various types of cable cutters so I know it's not just the ones I'm using at the moment.

have you tried small ratchet ones like knipex ?

some of the "Ergo form" snips, pliers, cutters look like they might solve your problem

take a dod of 25mm when you go to buy n try see how they do ?? bit hard when buying from Ebay or online tho :p

i use NWS VDE Heavy Duty cable cutters 210mm.

i'd post a link if i could but they are on a well known site where you fix screws

Also good for cutting strands of cable armour, although I try to restrict their use to copper.

Absolutely correct they hold water, shrouds are totally unnecessary. 20s is 24mm spanner, 20 large is 30mm spanner.

I'm not entirely certain as it's very tough, but brittle when cold.
