I reckon initials for a company is better hence why i trade as D S Electrical. The only thing i would have done differently had i not gone for my initials would have been to call my company something beginning with 'A' like Aspect Electrical or Assist Electrical only because it means you'll have one of the first numbers listed in the phone directory for electricians as they're always done alphabetically!

I trade under the trading name of "The Electrician". It doesn't come much simpler than that and most people can work out what I do. I am aware of 3 others in the country who also trade under that name, but none are within 100 miles of me, i have used it for 10 years or so. No one has yet complained, and neither have I.

Good idea... But it will only show Limited companies not sole traders etc

Ithought he wanted to check company names, providing he dosent use the name of a ltd co. registered name or PLC he can call it what ever he wants,

I can agree with this, my company name is A-Plan Electrical, and has got me at the top of a few lists including the niceic one for our area... which does help a bit. It is also a bit differnet from having your initials or your personal name as it seems quite a few people do go for that. So if you can think of a name which stands out a bit more that people may remember then might be worth doing.
