the lights in my living room are on their last legs, probably about 20 years old so they have had a good innings. so i'm on the market for some new lights, nothing too fancy but i'd like ones that last, so CFL i think. last time i bought a CFL lamp it was crap, flickered like mad on startup and it was a horrible bright white light. is there somebody that makes a flicker free warm white CFL lamp & light setup??

i've looked through several catalogues, and several shops online now for the past hour and none of them mention flicker free startup so i'll assume they flicker! anybody reccomend some god brands to look at? i might be persuaded to go LED if theres some sort of garauntee on the life of the lamps, cos im my opinion at the moment LED is a complete con. loads of claims that they will last forever and they don't last any longer than a standard halogen or sometimes less

i think he must be a star wars fan or had an arguement with his missus and bought them out of spite!
or a car boot sale fan, its amazing what junk my father picks up
Oh come on, no one would buy that. I'd be annoyed if I found it mate.
Just goes to prove that the only taste some people have is in their mouths:)

That is possibly the ugliest thing I have ever seen, quite a claim considering I've been to Sunderland:)

guess I'll stick to designing workshops then, and other utilitarian things, this was just something I had found amongst all the weird "futuristic" design from the 60's. this has nothing to do with star wars however. maybe I should never be aloud near a furniture shop.

You designed that Nathan? Sorry if I offended you mate but even you have to admit it's bloody grotesque:)
"maybe I should never be aloud near a furniture shop." I'm sure, like me and most of the others, you have a partner to keep you right. I'll freely admit there'd be some bad decisions made if she ever let me in a furniture shop on my own

no, never designed it, just found it

When you posted that I thought I've annoyed the guy who thought it up

no, judging by how old it is the designer probably died years ago.
I just want to prove that I do have taste by showing how I'd want a motorcycle to look:

I fear I may be loosing the point of this thread now so this might have to stop

I must have missed this thread, you certainly do have an eye for beautiful machinery.

Bloke I know manufactures Norley frames and has made a very good reputation for himself in the UK and USA. Nice to see some good engineers and fabricators are still out there:

Edit: I take it all back, that light sabre is minging...
