Discuss Good Morning Thread - Come say good morning, tell us what you've got on today. :) in the The Electrical Exchange area at ElectriciansForums.net

We have this thread on TilersForums.com and it's just been restarted because the old thread had 20,000 replies and 500,000 views. And there were 700 pages. Started to lag a bit on slow connections.

I think we had a bash of this before, but I can't find the thread, so thought I'd start another one off.

If you have time in the mornings, come post in the thread before you head off to work, let us know what you've got on and what the weather is like in your area etc. Anything at all is fine. :)

Posts and likes get counted towards your total stats in this thread.

So GOOOD MORNING PEOPLE - WEATHER IS NICE TODAY IN STOKE. I'M THANKFUL IT'S FRIDAY, HAD A RUBBISH WEEK. THANK GOD IT'S OVER.

Booked flights this morning. Fed up with 2025 already so heading to Spain for 10 days. Being Winter it's not possible to get direct flights from Scotland so I have to go via Gatwick. Easyjet for all 4 flights.
GLA-LGW = £83 return
LGW-MAH = £33 return
Taxi to airport =£30 each way and it's only 7 miles!
Travel pricing is weird!
Last year I went to Oban by train from Helensburgh. Using my "bus pass" for a discount that return journey was £3.
When I got to Oban I took the wee ferry to Kerrera which is about 500m trip and takes less than 3 minutes...£3:50...but the ticket machine was broken so I didn't pay. I went into the CalMac office to pay when I returned but the lady at the desk said not to bother!
Parking in the west end of Glasgow is £3:20/hour.
Anyway, I wish you all a peaceful and healthy 2025!

I’m needing 2 or 3 plane tickets to Seoul in South Korea about October time…..
if I can get them for £30 a pop, I’d be happy

I can’t believe I could be so stupid!

I went to a local farm as the customer had managed to damage another cable…. (Second one in a month)
This one meant taking the ladder off the van to access the route, and reclip a cable high up.

Laid the ladder back on the van rack when I was finished as I went to do some low level work. Actually drove around the farm and forgot to clamp the ladders back down.

Got home a little early and went upstairs for a shower… looked out the window and thought….. “that ladder doesn’t look…… OH SH…T!”

So I managed to drive around 20 miles home with an unclamped ladder. It had slid maybe a rungs height backwards and over to the other side of the roof.

I’m surprised it didn’t launch off at the first corner…. And even more surprised that the 2 police cars I met on the road didn’t blue light me.

Nearest I had to this was driving along a single track road with a few 3m lengths of 15mm and 22mm copper tube tied directly to the rack.
The road in question was fairly straight, a 100m section of corners, then straight again up a hill, which you could see from the first straight. This meant that 99 times out of a 100 you didn't need to slow much for the corners, except for the 1 in a 100 time you would meet a car in the middle. This day was that 1 day, and the car was a police car - probably the only police car to travel that road in a month. We both slammed on our brakes pretty smartish and safely came to a halt about 10m apart. Unfortunately, one of the 22mm pipes (which was leftovers being taken away from a site) must have had a 15mm pipe loose inside of it, which flew out like a javelin being launched and landed in the road, coming to a halt about two feet in front of the police car.
The police car was being driven by a reasonably attractive police woman, and I had to turn the charm right up to the highest level to get away with that one.

I've had a near miss with a ladder but almost on the receiving end. I was driving down to Minehead behind a van. Luckily I was keeping my distance as the ladder came off the van and landed on the road in front of me. He kept going. I got out and walked to the ladder with horns blowing behind me thinking I had just done an emergency stop for no reason.

:fearscream:I had a set come off a van in front of me in the middle lane, they bounced feet first on the road in front of me and summersaulted over my van missing me by shear luck!
I have also lost things off my roof, last one was a whole bundle of SA2 that I'd put up there to make room in the van and forgot to take off before heading to the next job, it stayed on for about 6 miles before a corner won.
It was a cold December day and as it hit the road nearly all of the lengths shattered, split the packaging and deposited shards of trunking all over the road.
Nearly an hour with a brush and shovel to tidy that lot up!

When I told my story to the CEF manager this morning, he says he recommends removing the couplings from steel conduit if tied to the roof of a van, as they can shake loose at speed and can smash windscreens of following vehicles.

I’m going to stop carrying the ladder unless I know I’m going to need it…. It was just me being forgetful.
