UK Good Practice?

So I have a client who has just had "garden room" / large shed installed. Supplier has pre wired the building but left sockets, lighting and consumer unit to be fitted "By an electrician because we're not"

An extra on the building is some plug and play led down lights in the soffit. These items come pre wired with a plug top, easy.

So when questioned more I was informed that people put them on a timer so they come on as and when.

Now who fits a socket on the lighting circuit to take a plug in timer to accomodate these plug and play lights?

Did the shed come with a dead test certificate to confirm the first fix complies with the regs ?
I'd not be interested in second fixing that myself.

cut plug/s off and use FCUs.

The lights don't need to be plugged into a socket in the lighting circuit. They can be plugged into a socket on the power circuit. The fuse in the plug will protect the item.

Hi - as per Andy, I think it’s poor practice that the builder has put cables in the fabric of the outbuilding and not provided a certificate for that work. I’d be asking them to send their Electrician to complete the electrical work and certify it. They may want some more £ for more work, but they should complete the job they started.

Im doing the dead testing just to double check as I will be connecting feed etc. I doubt it comes with any certificates but will be informing the client that I can not sign off installation and advise they speak to the supplier. Not my favourite job to start the week.

Yes indeed but they have been pre wired and there is not a socket near the plug. I may well be adding one though.

I bet that shed cost an absolute fortune too. They've not even cut the panelling level round the backing boxes there either. I know it'll probably be hidden with a faceplate but me knowing that's there for life would take out any relaxation I should gain from sitting in there. I'd have to trim the bit on the right the same. It'd do my head in.

The quality of the wood doesn't look very good either. Fluffy grain on it. Cut too fast and not smoothed over.

If you are doing second fix and energising the circuit, you are going to have to certify and notify the works.
Either you do works and certify or you don’t do any works.

what do you expect/ fitted by a builder. hole too tight... hammer job.

I would place my bets on a transformer hidden in the wall somewhere that wall connected to that molded plug.

Also probably wrapped up nicely in some insulation waiting to overheat
