Yes

Grey area, the metal casing of the fitting requires an earth i think and most will provide a CPC connection on the metal arm that attaches to the ring (usually with a screw) Im not sure if this is a requirement or good practice only, I've always done it if a connection is provided.

Finally Yes, I had this discussion with an NIC assessor and under 17th it is a requirement according to him.

Again no reg numbers as.... well it would mean looking and im enjoying a beer

Why? JB's don't have cable restraints. BS 7671 makes no distinction between JB's and Chocboxes.

I think that was kinda the point I was trying to make about Chocboxes needing cable restraints when joining vertical/unsupported cables.

I may have to admit defeat here, i have looked and found nothing, This may be a case of NIC recommended and not BS7671 requirement.

I change my answer to "not got a clue but NIC say its needed"

No need for local isolation as long as provision somewhere in the circuit for isolating and, if not local, keeping isolated (ie. lock off the mcb) for mechanical maintenance of fan blades.
No req for clamping cables in boxes although MF connectors do, along with cables being connected in a "maintenance free" way. (see other threads)
Metal downlights should be earthed unless double-insulated. If required, then there should be some connection for cpc. (check installation guide as what they say is a req)

This is exactly the situation I'm in.

Myself and several other sparks are doing identical second fix flats on price. Out of 4 sparks I was the only one to use the cable clamps to secure the cables supplying Wago connections for GU10 metal downlights.

Took me me an hour longer than the other guys and they said I was mad.

I was pretty sure the 17th edition required secured cables, hence the move from JB's to chocboxes, but they had me doubting myself. Needed a second opinion.

Incidently the down lights came with a green /yellow flylead attached to the arm of the holder and terminated in a connector block next to the live and neutral. First time I have seen this but makes perfect sense.

We automatically earth all other 230v metal lights, so why should downlights be excepted?
