So we have seen the £150 cu change thread,if that wasnt bad enough i have just looked on the local website to me,where local "sparks"(lol) elecsa regd and all that jazz(yes i must be just a bad then) are offering to change a light from £10,why not make it a fiver, unreal donk!!

I dont run a business but do the odd jobs here and there

I would charge £10 to change light fittings over which i reckon is fair

However if i was running a business i dont think i could do it so low

Having said that its probs bittersweet as once the sparky gets there to change thelight he scares the homeowner into all sorts of new wiring etc.... Thus making his money back

Remember ...... You dont get owt for nowt!

drive to the Job, carry kit from van to house, change light, test it is all okay then switch on, minor works certificate, carry kit to van, drive to next Job.

Travel time
Time on site
fuel costs

£25-£50 depending on distance travelled maybe more depending on type of light, a chandalier for example could take all day.

I do them as standard when changing lights bud, I don't doubt there is no need but I carry a pad around on the van and it is only a page to add a bit of script on and they feel happy.

Thats brilliant. "Carry gear from van to house" - whats your going rate for that then, ive always been wondering what to add to a quote for such services lol ;)

I know Im only pulling your leg. I think it would be a great touch adding on your itemised invoice.... "Carry kit from van to house, 47 calories burnt, sore shoulder agitated, one dropped hammer causing a bending motion that resulted in slight twinge in back" - £6.76 + VAT

It's not so silly to take carrying tools and materials in and out of the building into account. I don't itemise it on the invoice, but I have a few customers where, for a small job, it takes a significant proportion of the total time; one in a 3rd floor flat and another where the front door is up a long steep front garden with no vehicle access. As far as I'm concerned, the time on site starts when I park the van and continues until everything's packed away.

Cost for preparing risk assessment for travel over new ground, testing stability of path, measuring height of steps, risk assessment for carrying load up steps, weighing kit to ensure it is not beyond carrying capacity, assessing access route, preparing method statement for carrying kit along path and into house.

I mean it all mounts up!
You are much too cheap Wade!

You forgot to add - tying shoes laces

If I did a job for a tenner I would rather get paid in wine or spirits, the additional benefit of getting pi***d when I get home to the dragon
