well i got my 206 practical next thursday and my job is a 3-way lighting followed by a 4 socket Radial so i was just wondering what tests i would need to do and also could someone please explain the Long lead test for me as my tutor said he would be impressed if anyone did the Long lead test so i want to earn some Browny points lol

thanks

Long lead test is one clip at the consumer unit the other is clipped to the last light in the circuit which could be upstairs hence LONG LEAD and tests for continuity.

As for tests the full range can be applied to your situation.

Remember if you have any neons etc in circuit when doing an IR test clip live and neutral together on one clip and earth on the other to get a correct reading.

Good luck

Chris

ah cheers mate its only a 3-plate ceiling rose il be installing

lol when we did the the paper work for it the other day almost everyone (myself included) forgot to put earth and phase sheathing and connector block on our materials list grr

Take a deep breath and concentrate it is so easy to make basic mistakes that you kick yourself for afterwards but its not easy when you are trying to remember all you have learnt and your bottle is going Im sure you will be ok so keep us all posted. In the meantime any thiing that is bugging you shove a question on here.

Good luck

Chris

If you are doing the long lead test method, don't forget to measure the resistance of the long lead (on its own), and deduct this from your continuity measurement to give a true value of resistance of the conductor. Or null out the meter with the long lead connected between probes.

Cheers mate wiil do

Quick question i assume i will have to use a Voltmeter to check the voltage level ? If so am i right in thinking that i disconnect the supply and attach the leads to the phase/CPC at the light/last socket Then energize the suplly and take a reading ?
