Hello Ladies and Gents,

I am looking for as much info as i can about becoming an electrcician as i am looking for a career change. i worked in a school as an unqualified teacher and after 2 years i have found out that it does not suit me. call me old fashioned but when a kid tells you to f off, they should be punished. this is an alien concept in some schools now and i want no part in it.

i have loads of questions to ask and i apologise now if the questions have been asked before. particulaly about the domestic installer qualifications.

hope everyone is having a good christmas.

NT

:welcome:

A smart move :D becoming a sparks was best thing i ever did - its not easy, but its a rewarding career.

Ask away in the other forum's, im sure they'll be someone around to adversie and aid your learning.

Good luck and all the best.

never looked back mate, lost my job due to redundancy and realised there are hundreds of unemployed qualified teachers in the country at the moment so now is the time to get out. also, i have worked in other industries before and have found workingf in education one of the worst. schools are like the wild west, full of corruption and lies.

ive been reading through some of the posts regarding domestic installer, part P and doing an intensive course. some of the posts are quite sarcastic and spiteful.

They're not thought that highly of in the trade thats why.

The intensive course's aren't all what they're cracked up to be, they promise the world and deliver nothing. It is impossible to become fully qualified and competent in 10weeks, it just doesn't happen. Otherwise the apprentership would take the same amout of time and not 4/5years.

By all means do the short courses, but find work as a mate/labourer whilst you're doing them. DO NOT take the short courses, and think you'll instantly become an electrician - because it doesn't work like that - This is what a lot of people do, and this is what upsets the competent sparks.

On site experience is invaluable.

cheers marc, i can understand peoples apprehensions about the lack of real world experience but some people are suggesting that it is impossible to do the theory in such a short space of time as it took them 2 years to do it as an apprentice which i disagree.

regardless of the sarcasim, which at times is merited, I applaud your enthusiasm to work and welcome you to the forum, all the very best of luck and Merry christmas, I hope all works out for you as anyone who wants to earn a living has my respect, good luck.

Well we'll leave it at that then.

Good luck :) and like i said before, welcome to the forum. I genuinley hope you find what you're looking for on here. Merry Christmas buddy, all the best.

well you wouldn't have done my college work in 5 mins thats for sure haha, but as markc pointed out, lets leave it at that, well for now, popcorn at the ready
