Think I had better keep out above my pay grade
Way above my pay grade too Pete. Thats why I'm asking the questions. Half the trouble is that I want to have multiple points to hard wire in for internet connection but then theres all the other stuff you can do with home entertainment etc.

If you run 4xcat5e, 1x shotgun and 1 single coax to every tv position back to a central position then you are pretty future proof for whatever you want to install. 5 sat grade coax to dish position and 2 cat 5 low level external (if there is ever the chance of having virgin media).

If you want to hide sky boxes then think about positions and run a hdmi and IR extender to the TV.

If it's all back to a central position you've got the choice of installing a entertainment hub, hdmi matrix etc

Surely you mean Cat 6
CAT 5/6 vs satelite cables - https://www.avforums.com/threads/cat-5-6-vs-satelite-cables.2097207/#post-24967376

 Told you they were geeky!

No mate...I don't believe all the cat6 hype...there isn't anything really a cat 5e won't do and it's cheaper. Unless @FatAlan is going to spend thousands on having gigabyte internert installed :D

They bang on about for hours & hours backwards & forwards. Its like someone on here asking how to wire up a hot tub. :)

You wanna future proof!

Cheers chaps. What’s a ‘shotgun’ alway thought it was a device for killing the local wildlife

When I did our refurb, where ever we wanted a TV, I ran 2 x satellite grade coax, 1 phone line and 1 x CAT5. Our BT line comes into a cupboard by our front door - 1 then ran a single CAT 5 into the loft above the cupboard where I planned to fit the switch - then I ran all the other points back to this - we now have 12 points around the house, plus a backup device attached to said switch.

With CAT5 you need to consider where the incoming broadband is, and where you want to place the switch.

The loft houses all the coax cables - only 8 points are currently connected and this can handle multiple inputs too.

Wifi, is there for the mobile devices.....

If you do something similar, I would recommend 47mm deep back boxes......

Best start writing a spec for each and every room and take it from there...

Ok I’ve already got 2 x CATS. Anyone recommend a good CAT flap. PS How do I wire in 2 x DOGS and 2x BUDGIES? :D

Network wise decide where you want to equipment to be located, router NAS etc etc then cascade down the house from there, mine is in the loft and I also have a patch panel under the stairs to switch things over if need be.
