Hager maintenance free joint boxes

Hi all can anyone tell me why hager joint boxes have in little righting says that these joint boxes are not to be in or on insulation ant what about wago joint boxes many thanks

Guess would be their stated rating (20a 30a etc) is in free air not in insulation.
They would have to be down rated for use in insulation, as would anything else with a free air rating.

If Wago don't state not to be used, it doesn't mean they can be used in insulation, but it if was a problem I'm sure it would be stated on the Wago.

my wholesalers struggled to give me something to join 10mm cables yesterday, i had to squeeze them in 30A jb.


what do you use and yes they didnt stock crimps.

To join 10mm you could use either a coffin box or a small adaptable box and crimps.

Snow head is right. The tests for maintenance free (and connectors in general) have very tight temperature increase (voltage drop/resistance) tolerances. So covering the enclosure with insulation would probably derate sufficiently to not meet specifications. Note that the Ashley 501 also has this warning. In my opinion a bit if a bind when using for lighting!

Wago do NOT currently meet maintenance free requirements - even before covering with insulation.

The requirements of BS 60670-22 require all enclosures that surround or secure to a face the connector to undergo additional heat build up testing as the heat can not escape as easily (even worse if the enclosure surface is also insulated). The LINE enclosure creates an air gap around the connectors which eliminates this risk!
