Hi all,

Another quick one hopefully,

When working out the wattage for a single 12v 50w halogen downlight what is the correct calculation.

We covered this at college but i can't for the life of me remember.

I know P
VxI

But what I'm asking is the added load of the transformer.

Anyone?

OK am a bit confused by the OP, you want to know the wattage of a 50w lamp.... it is 50w.

W = VA x pf

therefore

W/pf = VA.

pf will be written on the transformer (I am yet to see one which is not 0.97)

So the extra drain on the supply to the transformer is 1/0.97 x 50.

Sorry for the long answer but your question is vague, so am trying to answer every possible permutation.

Halogen lamps is a great alternative bulbs. They produce a bright natural light like daylight. They put out a lot of heat than other types of bulbs so you need to be careful when using this type of bulb.

Great alternative to what? They are better than incandescent but that's about it. Shocking running costs when in downlights. LED is a great alternative lamp.

you could ask one of the highly qualified electricians you employ on your web site..

It’s a joke it has to be..

Established for 5 years The Omega Electrical Group continues to expand employing a number of highly qualified electricians. We specialise in electrical testing and we also undertake all aspects of electrical installation and design.

This has to be a wind up thread!
