Havent started a thread in an awfully long time.
Time for another tool tart topic lol, if i asked whats the best hammer most of u will say estwing. They're just very well made n 'balanced' ive got a stanley fatmax and after havin a go with my boss' estwing, i wana get rid of it. but did u know u can get vinyl and leather grips..
sounds very sad i know but i wondered if anyone had a leather grip estwing and what they thought of it. Someone i know said its supposed to mould to your grip over time which makes it sound pretty good.

the only reason i ask is cos i wana get an estwing pretty soon and they're like over £30 and i wana get the right one and after all i cant find a shop/wholesaler or anywhere who sell like a variety of estwings so u can try them out lol

cheers, jimbo:)

You may laugh but ive got a draper one, had it ages, bought a stanly fat max gave draper to apprentice mushroomed the head in no time at all, smashed fingers up as it just did'nt hit the clips in right.
Took back draper still going now
Got called an indian giver but love me draper hammer:)

oh right cool, im gettin rid of my fat max cos its just nothing like the estwing tht i borrow off my boss, its just v well balanced.
and yeah thats what i was thinking, i think the leather grip is actually varnished or somethin cos it seems shiny.
i'll prob go and get myself the vinyl one / 20oz lol

I've got a eswing but i used to have a leather one it was good but after a few years the leather starts to undo at the bottom of the handle.

i knew an old joiner who started sweaing his leather grip estwing was broken and how "poor " modern tools were then announced "Its only 20 years old!!!!"

Was bought a vaughn hammer as a present years ago, used it for about a week and gave it away and went back to a twenty year old Stanley steel shaft. Had to get a brass head hammer for a job (explosive atmosphere) I was on about 30 years ago, ended up like a mushroom and went in the scrap bin. Shop near me had some anonomous claw hammer with a shaft about the length of a brickies club hammer, called them girly hammers as most girly's held their hammers right up near the head. Maybe some of our girly sparks would care to comment.
