daniel hill

now then

got a call to day from a mate hu has a strange problem

on the out side of his house there is a pir sensor feeding two 150w hallogen lamps
now when these are truned in the on position on the fused spur to isolate them, on a night when he turns the kitchen light of it turns the out side lights on then trips the cb
but wen the kitchen light is on the two out side lights work fine with out any tripping
have meggerd the wires and all turn out clear

i have told him re wire but he hasnt then money and dont want to have to be looking for any jb under floor as has a huge tilled floor in the bath room and has fitted cubards :(
two of the worst things for a rewire spark

any thoughts would be great

Better description is needed.

And when the fused spur for the outside lights is in the off position the lights still work when the kitchen light is turned off? you mentioned the spur being in the on position to isolate them but i dont see how that would work?

sounds like a mess!!

said that wrong

basically when the outside lights are turned on on the spur, on a night when you turn the flori of in the kitchen it triggers the outside lights to come on and it about two seconds after its triggerd the outside lights it trips the cb
but when you isolate the outside lights at the spur its fine
this is what i carnt understand how would a flori make the lighting do this

The chap who put up the florescent light has made a mistake i would say. As said above bell out your switch wire. See whats what and reconnect it. 99% of the time I get similar lighting faults to this and its always someones mistake.

Cheers

Transient overvoltages spring to mind.mov--metal oxide varister might cure it.If your friends house is very close to the supply transformer you could try upgrading his mcb to one rated at 6 or even 10ka
