Is it me or are customers asking for a lot more for a cheaper price.

took an hour away from my family this afternoon to quote for a job, The guy wants his Airing cupboard wiring tidying up, a 8 way ccu change with tails and bonding for under £250

Also an old 6mm shower cable re routing from the attic to the first floor so it can be used to power a cooker, he moaned at £100

Im one of those who will drop my rate and margin to make a living, i dont mind, but there has to be a point where you have to walk away

If I can't negotiate a rate for a job that both me and the customer are happy with I leave my details and tell the customer not to be afraid of calling if he gets a cheaper contractor in and things go sideways. I usually follow up in a week or two to find out how he got on. We've made good business several times by cleaning up other peoples mess which is always unquoted work at our hourly rate.

i love customers that get your quote then do the haggle, then they switch to pound notes to attempt to save some more
(i have heard some tradesmen do deals for cash)
then at the end they want invoices and paperwork
you have got to love them i love them
oh and the woman across the roads electrician works for half the ammount that you do!
