I've had a LED lensor H7r for about 2 years and it's been a good little torch apart from battery life as it only has 3x AAA and a lot of plastic clips which have broke over the years and is now held together with tape.so I've been looking for something with a bit more juice and found the zebralight H600 series.I went for the H602w which is a flood only lamp and a rechargeable 18650 lion battery which is equivalent to 4x AA.

Had it for a week now and it's far better than the led lensor much higher lumens, more battery life and more comfortable for about the same weight. The light is 120 deg spread which is perfect for work indoors and has a number of setting right up to 1000 lumens which compared to the 170 lumens and focused beam on the lensor makes it much better for changing boards in cupboards working under floors and in lofts.

I payed £75 for the torch and then about £15 for a good 18650 lion battery so it's not cheap but worth it IMO as I use it so much it just ends up staying on my head for most of the day.

Yeah was looking at that one too looks a lot better than the H7r but it looks quite big and heavy and only goes up to 220 lumens where as I can get from 0.1 to 1000 lumens on the zebralight.

i got a little nebo led hand-heald with a clip to slide onto brim of my hat
uses 1 aa battery and is quite bright.
anyway i dont use it as much since i had cataract surgery
(now i can see quite well in the dark)
even the kids small led night light is a bit bright for me, im wearing sunglasses almost all the time.

if you need a work horse then one like that:

or some equivalent powered with AA batteries.
plus set of sanyo eneloop AA rechargeable batteries.

i put them on the charger overnight, they last from a week of occasional work to a one day when you wear it all day full power working in some dark loft.

much better running time than AAA powered,
i`m not a big fan of rechargeable torches with built in battery, they have a limited lifespan and you never know if battery for your model will be still available in couple of years.

I got a LED Lenser H14R, genuine one, not saying the cheap ones are fake, but there's a lot of fake led Lenser torches on the market and on eBay at half the price of a genuine one. Having seen one thy are very convincing but there are a couple of give away points on them. I use my OBE every da for long periods of time ne it's perfect!

Just to add, it is rechargnle, but it's just as easy to whip the 4x AA batteries out and put thm in a charger, I always have a coupl of sets of the mega powered Duracell rechargables, the ones that cost a fortune about £14 for 4 batteries.

is it just me that thinks £60+ is far too expensive for a head torch? I see the OP paid about £90 for theirs. they must have light between their ears to pay that much.

It's more than a head torch it's a flood lamp! It is a lot of money but these are quality bits of kit! Don't get much for £60 these days.

I think paying £90 once for a tool I will use every day and make the jobs easier is far better than buying loads of cheap low light ones that might just get you by(some times).you get what you pay for

Petzel for me

Petzl for me too. Great little light, takes 3 AAA batteries and lasts ages.

Best part for me is the adapter mounting kit.

I have to wear a helmet most of the time, and I can't be bothered with those fiddly clips and headbands.
There is a little stick on attachment for the helmet, and a belt clip, so when I need light, it's off the belt clip and onto the helmet in 5 seconds, rock solid, will never stir.

this is mine. clips on the hard hat. never needs batteries.

After much deliberation trying to balance quality/price and reading several reviews, i decided on the new LED Lenser H7.2
Ordered it on Wednesday morning. It arrived this morning (Thurs) so obviously been playing with it most of the day. Comfortable and extremely bright. More than adequate for any loft space or cu change in a dingy cupboard.
I had thought about the H7.2R but as i have my own charger and batts i didn't think the extra was worth it. There is also a micro usb port on the side of the battery case that is not referenced anywhere so untill i get a lead i'm assuming it can be charged from usb which would be a great bonus.
The Coast HL8CLAM and Petzl Pixa 2 were also on my sub £50 shortlist. Spec wise the Coast looks the better on paper with the H7.2 and Pixa 2nd/3rd but the real world's down to personal preference. I got fed up comparing Lumens/weight/batt life and if i could help stop ships from running aground so just ordered the Lenser
Anyway, £42 well spent and a good bit of kit for the money.
Colin.

My headlamp was £10 off Ebay. Uses rear-mounted 18650 Lithium, which lasts ages and it's incredibly bright with a focus ring. It hardly ever leaves my head, easily goes all day on 1 charge.

If buying the cheapies, there are very bright ones about but also come crappy stuff. Need to check the spec on the LED. (Plastics may be less than perfect, but for a tenner I'm happy).
