Hi everyone,
This is my first post here.
I live in the UK and I like to DIY as many jobs that I can as long as I'm capable of it.
I trained as a car mechanic many years ago and this is where I first started to get my hand into some form of electronics, unfortunately I was never able to find a full time job in this field where I was living so moved onto other employment.

think you'll find members are willing to advise on DIY as long as the jobs are seen to be within your capabilities. ( e.g. replacing a socket/light fitting, but may draw the line at power to a shed ).

Hi Paul and welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the replies.
Ok, here is what I'm looking at doing & what I have already done.
I purchased a 3rd gen nest hot water and heating system.
Having wired it all up and testing with my multi meter everything seemed to be working, ie, hot water pump goes on and off at the request of the nest as does the heating.
How ever I noticed the pump coming on in the early hours which was for the heating, which the nest does according to outside weather forecast but the boiler wasn't on.
Subsequent testing of wires proved there is only 1 circuit of wires calling for heat to the boiler which is associated with the hot water, assuming the builders had wired it up wrong I had a professional plumbing firm out. They told me it is a heat store system which does only have one feed to the boiler calling for heat and the hot water must be on at the same time as the central heating.
This causes a problem for the nest.
I spoke to the professional whilst he was at my house & he said there are 3 options.
1 replace the whole system, this is a no go option as far as I'm concerned.
2 put in a gate valve, which they want over £325 to do, so a lot of money.
3 wire in a relay.
Problem is the company he works for isn't prepared to do it, which I find quite odd.
So my question is, how easy is it to wire in this relay please, is it something I could do or do I call another company out.
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum mate.
Do you have a wiring diagram of how it is wired up now?

2nd wire from left goes to the CH pump
3rd white wire from the left goes to the tank stat
4th white wire from the left goes to the hot water pump
5th white wire from the left is the main 3 core power supply wire
