I am preparing for my first practical assessment. I have been asked to discuss three reasons for conducting a polarity test on a de-energised installation.
I have said that it reduces the chance of electric shock, it avoids damage to accessories and or equipment and potential fire risk if polarity is incorrect.
Are there any other/better reasons you can think of?
Also are my reasons right?
Also hello people!

  1. All single pole devices (fuses, switches and circuit breakers) are connected in the phase conductor only.
  2. The phase conductor must be connected to the centre terminal of an Edison screw lamp holder (with the exception of E14 & E27 lamp holders, these are European and occasionally crop up in the exam).
  3. All polarities of socket outlets (ring & radial) must be verified.

Welcome. You might find this post helpful as it describes the tests and what you are actually proving in each case:
All the best with your assessment.
