I gots me a 3 year old Toshiba Equium A100. Brilliant machine, as good as anything out today speed and memory wise.

They probably dont make em anymore but it's Toshiba for me.;)

I have been building Pc's and Macs for years and would always advise on buying a Mac, They cost a bit more but are so much more reliable FACT: for every 10000 crashes there are on a PC there are 0.9 crashes on a MAC also there are thousands upon thousands of virus on the PC whereas there are 2 yes 2 Virus on the MAC and they have both been cured

1. Is easy to sort.

First click on Start Button then Control Panel then go to the Network and Sharing Centre (Network and Internet in the Vista View or Network and Sharing Centre in classic) then on the left sellect connect to network.
After that it explains everything.

2. I take it your other computer is linked to the network. You can do it a few ways.

The best would be to create a sharing folder on the old computer somewhere preferably the desktop, to do this create a new folder and go into the folder options and change the settings to share the folder.

On the new computer go into Windows Explorer and on the left drive/file list right click on "computer" and select Map Network Drive from the menu.

Then input the information of the old computer it should be something like

\\computername\foldername. you can easily find it by browsing the folders available.

Once you have the folder located just OK it and then on the old computer dump all the files you want to transfer over in to it.

Once they are in it access the folder from the new computer and transfer the files into a folder on it.

iTunes will need to be installed using the software you have on disk/download from the site

You can also file transfer using CD/DVD's or a memory stick but that takes time

3. Don't use Norton. It is still the worst ever anti virus package, waste of money as it doesn't update much and also you have to subscribe to it. Get a free one like Avast or AVG much better than Norton and it costs nothing.

Also get Spybot Search and Destroy great little program to fight spyware

Firefox is another one to get a lot better than Internet Explorer as you can customise it until your heart is content. If you do get Firefox make sure you get the no scripts and ad blocker add ons.

laptop up and running took back norton put avg on
also fire fox
screen qual is fantastic
thanks to those who gave advice

good to hear that.

SInce it is Vista that is running make sure it carries out a full update, it usually does it automatically but just now and then it doesn't

Also one other thing is go and make sure Windows Defender is running. Both can be done through the control panel.
