any my help will be much appreciated Thanks

You will have to do your 2356-99 and I think now you have 2 do the am2 as part if this if you haven't already got it, you didn't have to do the am2 to gain your 2356 up until about a year ago but it's recently changed. You have to be registered with C&G for at least 10weeks before they will issue you your certificate but to do it it 10weeks that would be going some. It's a hell of a lot of repetitive writing something like 8 or 9 units 3 times over but using different wiring systems etc. I did mine with quick-step electrical but I think xs-training are a forum sponsor on here so worth checking them out, heard a lot of positive things about them.

You are right, I did the 2356-31 (for practising operatives) as a standalone qual with CTD and did not need AM2. To be eligible you had to have a few years experience. All I had was 5 Years solid experience, 17th & 2391. I also did additional knowledge units as I do not hold 2330 quals. Got JIB Approved Grade ECS Card. The new 2356-99 is for practising operatives too and seems more or less the same but with AM2 as a requirement also.

I'm doing my NVQ with xs training, very helpful. You have to do 3 sets of 8 units. Outdoor installation, indoor installation, ring main, motor control, conduit, singles, swa, inspection and test and so on.

They are forum sponsors too, check out the link. Sorry about your situation mate, but this is hoop you will probably have to jump through. Check out employer verification though, if you are on good terms with any of your old ones. Not sure it will work, but it's worth a shot.

I can assure you that someone their end has dropped a clanger, if you ring the JIB and tell them about your history they will inform you about missing out certain pages in the application form and they will grade you an Electrician, I know, I have helped others who I have employed in the past to get their cards. With the 236 parts 1 and 2 and the 17th you are over qualified really lol, shame you do not have your AM2, that would get you your approved card.

236 a+b and 17th edition you will get grandad rights, but 2360 part 1 and 2 and 17th I think jib still require nvq3?

Pretty much, when I rang it was basically NVQ3 for ELECTRICIAN or NVQ3 + 2391 for APPROVED ELECTRICIAN.

A bloke who sometimes does bits for me recently sent of his application with 236 A and B with his 17th edition, jib sent him an adult trainee or labourer card. He went of his head lol phoned the jib and they admitted they made a mistake and sent him out a gold card graded as installation electrician he didn't have to have the nvq3 as he got grandad rights as done his 236 in 1989 obviously the Nvq 3 wasn't about then. How ever any one who done 2360 parts 1 and 2 or 2330 level 2 and 3 has to obtain the Nvq 3 unless the work for a jib registered company who can sponsor them but this only lasts all the time they work for that same company.

I think only those who have trained since the introduction of NVQ3 should be expected to hold one for JIB Electrician or Approved grading. It would not be fair for people who trained before them to (like your mate). It would be like saying "you were qualified, but now you aint".

Didn't know there was a difference Lee.

They should just keep 2 one recognised qualification IMO, and that should be the only acceptable qualification to become an electrician. When I done my apprenticeship I done 2330 level 2 and 3 didn't really do much site work so never applied for a jib card, then a few years later started picking up more new builds so thought I'd apply for a jib card only to get sent a trainee card lol. So ÂŁ750 bucks later and a shed load of writing and photos I got the Nvq 3 and in the eyes of the jib I was now qualified lol. It was a complete joke really as most of the Nvq3 portfolio could just be made up lol.

Hello again
many thanks lads for all you advice rang Ecs today only to be told NVq3 what a load of *****
I think I'm wasting my time to be honest if I knew I would have done it.
It's really ****ed me off I've possibly lost this job and had an opportunity to bring non sparks with me potentially me and 8 other lads so what a ball ache.
I'd accept a Non approved card But a Labourer that's **********************************************removed************************************************ Orf Happy Christmas Ecs Jib .

Rant over
