Probably a lot like the car scam, if you have a car for sale they call you say they have people waiting to buy a car like yours and guarantee it'll be sold in a week for ÂŁ200 more than advertised, for ÂŁ30 upfront fee but nobody ever shows up, i was drunk and desperate at the time:rolleyes:, they may be the same or may not but does seem too good to be true, be careful fella

It's legit I am sure about that, I just wondered if anyone has tried something like this. I have signed up and it cost me nothing, reading through their tutorials and guides it sounds like its worth a punt, you dont pay if you dont want the work. Take a look and see what you think Comcero - What you want. The way you want it.

Looks good but it will need to be advertised otherwise the public will not know about it, i've not heard of it til now but i may give it a go, the only thing that puts me off is evertime you get shortlisted you have to pay ÂŁ7 and you may not get the job so if it happened 10 times a month thats ÂŁ70 for nothing

not done any good with yellow pages .we monitor all our advertising and found this has come out bottom.google has been the best, rated people is very good

As i only started out on my own aug last year i have advertising everywhere including yell.com, local services guide, local paper and any free listing on line. All this still can`t touch word of mouth though. I`m trying to let people see i exist and then will look at advertising again at end of year. It`s a bloody costly overhead!

I have free listing with yell had one job off it to date, I have been sending out a business card and letter of introduction to new planning apps for a while and to date I havn't had any work from it, I go on council website and find the new ones that have been approved, i think the problem there is its a little early as they might not even be doing the work for another year (will carry on doing it though). I advertised in local rag along with about 5 other sparkies didn't get one single call and I think this form of advertising is too expensive and I think people just ring up and compare prices. Iam not into under cutting and so on. my dad god rest his soul always said "if you work for free then you will never be short of employers". My oppinion is thats my rate if you don't like go somewhere else

Excellent post Dan. For People like myself who are looking to start out its good thread. I've added to my business plan advice.

Cheers:)

I got sucked into the yell pages, a guy came round promised me 11 jobs a month, i was just starting out and said yea why not, bad mistake, had 1 job i think off it. Very tough at minute. Got a few leaflets left so going to send out to letting and estate agents i think.
Good post.

Great thread, tried alot of the above ideas for jobs, some worked better than other but all good ideas none the less.

Has anyone got any suggestiond for gaining more commercial work, call out, install or PIR's & PAT etc etc.

I have registered everywhere i can think of, have website, done flyers etc But not much work about. Spent way to much on ratedpeople for my liking too!

Good post.

I fell in to that trap with yell, and many others promising the world but they are sales people thats what they do, don't believe everything they tell you. If you have to pay to have a link on someones website make sure that they have a good page rank because if they don't chances are you wont get much work out of it.

Good luck

What a great post...having never been self employed have never really needed to do any of these things but there is some real imagination with some of those little ploys.......top marks for effort:D:D
