Hi guys

iv recently started off on my own and always worry what to charge..wether it will be to mjuch to scare the custumer off or cut my self short...

for example iv got to quote for a cooker feed to be installed tomo (not seen the job yet) have you guys got a set price for points/higher rate cooker/showwer rate? or just hourly rate?

i think ÂŁ30 poundish an hour plus materials but dont want to scare them off as im just starting and need the work

plus what do you do with regards to testing, do you have a set figure per cicuit for certifcates etc?

thanks

you're in the right ballpark at ÂŁ30, maybe a bit less depending where you are. it's all down to experience. if you are not gvetting your quotes accepted, then your prices are too high. if you're busy and skint, then you're too cheap.

Is that ÂŁ30:00 for the whole circuit, or just wire it up to an existing cooker outlet plate?

You need a Business plan before starting up, you need to work out what your wages need to be based on an hourly rate, the cost of the van you have, your insurance, allow for the fact you may not work 8 weeks of the year and then that will give you your basic rate. Once you have worked out what you need to charge per hour you are off and running, when you price a job get quotes from the wholesalers for your materials and add 10-15% onto the top, so it is your hourly rate times how long you think the job will take, and plus materials and plus markup on materials.

thanks chaps

murdoch im down south, dorset.

Mdj i totaly agree with what your saying, i do need to sit down and work it all out just looking for a rough figure really.

plus im in the proccess of working out what advertising i want to go for,my club and literaly working out of the cost of things lol so probaly down to experience i suppose but once iv got the foundations in place will def do a business plan!

If anybody wants a cash flow spreadsheet in excel which helps with working out overheads ,costs etc and a personal budget sheet so you can work out personal expenditure give us a shout and i'll send them .

You can easily knock 'em about a bit as well so they work how you want them too . Quite useful .
