Hi
I'm looking to retrain as an electrician (now 36) but I'm totally confused about what I actually need to do to qualify.

Everyone I ask gives me different information and a different hoop I need to jump through....

I'm registered to start C&G 2365 level 2 at a local college starting in a few days, and then level 3 next year... But what next? is there any way of becoming fully qualified (doing NVQ?)if I don't manage to get employed after level 3?

Does anyone know if I dan use C&G 2365 to become a domestic installer before I then become a fully qualified electrician (I need to get some money coming in once level 3 gained or sooner)

Thanks

the only way you can do it is by gaining employment as an electricians mate/improver while doing the course. there's no short cut. practical experience is just as important as gaining the qualifications.

The NVQ is a qualification to assess the quality of your work done in your job so unless you can do this through occasional agency work you would need to be employed. Some training companies provide workshop based assessments, but these are a bit of a fudge.

1st of all, great you are doing it the correct way going to a college, i would say just get a labouer ecs jib card, so you can do site work, and if u go on the jobcentre web page they now list all electrical jobs in your area, ps there is company that take on older trainees, we have 2 of them
