just read a funny thread on screwfix community. Person posted a question 'lights have gone out very strange'.

Some of the responses are so funny. They would be annihilated if they were on here.

'Your house is probably wired in MI, Dropped a pot, can't be repaired, you'll need a full rewire costing ÂŁ4k.'

All diagnosed from the end of a PC!

Anyway, I just thought I'd share this before I go off to work.

I wouldn't laugh too much guys with what the poster said he as a switch with 3 wires in it all BLACK, and the flat built in the 70's there is a good chance that the installation was done in MICC..............

I just posted on here with someone asking about wiring downstairs when the floor is concrete, and many of these flats were built cast with a screed, and the installation was done in MICC. The concrete was literally just scored enough to lay the MICC and screeded over.

Sockets were not so bad as you could gland them into a back box, but the lighting was often just potted and then taken into a god awful bulkhead type fitting and left loose.

So it is something to think on, and perhaps quite good advice.

Well that maybe a wee bit of a punt, as that would be impossible to say, but if it is done in MICC, it will be a lot more expensive than a T+E installation to repair and a lot more complex, they will have to find a DI that can do MICC for a start.

Good point.. Can't imagine they teach Pyro to a great level on a DI course.... If at all?

Even on the full year level 2 they only showed us the basics due to the cost of it. It was the first time I came across micc/pyro and wanted to get more experience to become quicker so I loaned the potting tools from college and bought 3 meters from the wholesalers and practiced all week. Never know when your going to come across it, I prefer fp200 cable.
