Hi all,

piccy below is of a domestic plant room, the CU is the main incoming board (sub mains to 4 others).

The corner it's all in was meant to be kept clinical purely for electrics, but due to space restrictions the water treatment boys have had to stick a chemical dosing tank (1% chlorine, 99% water) right under, and arguably in the way of, the main CU. I've protested to the builder and said I don't like it (also on a practical note there's another couple of armoureds to go up there yet), but I need to be able to justify it properly or risk being called an old woman.

Part M is a start, but it's a little clutching at straws. External factors, hmm maybe.

Suggestions anyone?

The chlorine tanks should be in an externally vented bund within the room. The room should be pressurised to force any gas out. Chlorine gas/fumes are heavier than air.

Not a lot of help as far as access to the DB is concerned I know. In fact it will make it worse. But it's another string to add to your bow.

Chlorine rots copper like buggery if allowed in contact with it. Ask any plumber that has worked on water treatment, better still ask JohnBoy by PM.

Tony - FYI, this is THAT job, still!! And the customer still hasn't been told by the builder that they need to cough up for the new pole works. The chlorine (as I understand it) is already in 1% solution for water dosing (some part of the purification system from borehole to potable) so unless I can make a case for spillage in massive amounts (unlikely) then I think a corrosion argument is thin on the ground, too.

I've just scanned EAWR and drawn a blank, think the writing's on the wall with this one.

Not surprised your getting pee’d off with this job. How long have you been at it now?
I’ve always been twitchy around chorine, we had a spill and one of the lads ended up very ill.

I’ll bet the customer isn’t the happiest bunny in the world.
